Amitabh Bachchan's Blog - 3rd Day 20 April

Prateeksha, Mumbai, April 19, 2008 / 10:42 pm

The flow of messages continues unabated and as someone on the blog has said i need to employ people to help me or else fear the loss of my fingers..!!

But thank you for this love and affection and some immensely emotional bondings that i have read and continue reading. It is a huge task to respond to each and everyone, which i am certain all coming on the Blog realize, but if i can make a few references, i do hope the others will understand. Hopefully their turn will also come.

The status on ‘Shantaram’ is asked. Mira Nair came and met me and set up everything, took my dates and time, discussed the look and the character, but wrote an email soon after that due to the Writers Strike in Hollywood, the project has to be postponed. She had shown my films to Johnny Depp, who has said some very complimentary things about me in his interviews. But that is all. I have not heard since from Mira.

Naresh Agarwal from Singapore did a huge page and description of his links with my films and my issues and i thank him for his views and his strong support.

Satyam’s review on “Sarkar’ was very sincere and most discerning. Very few have been able to catch this aspect of RGV’s film making - his complete liberty in capturing the close ups of artists. In Sarkar Raj, whose unveiling takes place tomorrow at JW Marriot, there is more of his desire to allow actors to perform in the freedom of close ups.

There are fans who remember my father, DR Harvansh Rai Bachchan and his poetry. I shall soon be able to dedicate an entire chapter on some of his works. But would wait for the website being prepared to be able to do justice to his enormous volume of work.

Divya wants me to work in a Telegu film. I shall try, though i do not have a hold on the language. I did speak a few lines in’ Lawaaris’ in Telegu though.

Arundhati, i acknowledge my being your ‘jamai babu’, since Jaya is a Bengali. I love that term.

Sreeram raised a pertinent point. Did i chose Jaya because she had the qualities of a strong woman much like my mother. I think, men when they look for a life partner quite naturally want a woman close in nature and stlye to their own mothers. And perhaps the same for women too when they chose their mate, a reflection of their own father is sought.

Dq, feels that the Blog is an ocean of messages and she will not be noticed - well she just did.

Thank you Pinky - you saw Cheeni Kum 15 times !! and Nishabd 5 times !! media critics will not want to digest this. Though i feel Nishabd was one of my most challenging roles. It is another matter that many equated the persona with the reel character and disliked the persona !!

SSMS complimented me for working in donating for those affected in the Gujarat earthquake, but questioned how much i donated to Muslims killed and raped in Gujarat violence. I appreciate your sentiment. No amount of material good can overcome a human life or its disgrace. Violence is not the answer to violence and it is unfortunate and should never happen. When we collect funds generally we give it to a Govt., or a body for its useful distribution. I do personal charity, but i do not want to talk about it. I would rather do it and quietly. So let me say this honestly. Yes i have done the required charity, but i find it demeaning to my intent to describe it.

There are fans from New Zealand - Veerana and from Afghanistan - Waheed and his reference to my visit to his country for the shooting of Khuda Gawah. Some day i shall elaborate on this trip of mine which was one of my most exciting visits.

Hitesh Patel wonders if his mail will ever be read..

A lot of the messages contain millions of ?????????, such images. I am presuming that they have written in the devnagri hindi script and my computer is not being able to decipher it.

Rushi has asked me call on her cell and put her number down too - not a wise thing to do Rushi !!

Saurabh Tankha, from Pioneer wants an email interview - sure, contact my office and it will be organised.

There are 54 pages of messages till the last count. A lot of work. But i am making the effort to try and give back as much as i can get.

Last night as i scrolled through the channels on TV, i came across Headlines Today, under their Entertainment programme giving a report on my Blog and its formation. I want to thank them for their generosity in providing me and my Blog the much required publicity of its existence. Though i found their comments laced most subtely with sarcasm ! They gave their reason for my Blog as an escape from ‘political attacks’ on me. Thats laughable. For a non politician it does not qualify me for political attack. Politicians may take my name, as i said earlier, but that does not include me into their profession and most certainly does not coerce me to start a Blog in order to shield any attack. They would gain nothing from it. Its an exercise in futility.

The report on Headlines Today ended with the comment ” well, he will have to learn to write now”

I am admittedly not as literate as the journalist community and certainly do not possess the ability required in their profession, but i do respond at times and for those on the Blog that may care to read i am ‘posting’ a few responses that i made last year, over an article that came out in the ‘OUTLOOK magazine. The article was heavily critical of and about the marriage procedures of Abhishek and Aishwarya and about my attitude towards various factors unacceptable to society in general and to some prominent thinkers and men of letters in particular.

I shall be happy to learn from readers what they thought of the accusations and of course my response to them.

With love and more..much more

Namaskar, Shubh Ratri, ShabhaKhair, Satsriakal and Good Night

Amitabh Bachchan

Thank you very much Amit ji. It is nice to see your BLOG here. I feel it is too much for you ...”someone on the blog has said i need to employ people to help me or else fear the loss of my fingers..!!” I also feel same for you

That is true that your work in Chini kum and Nishabd is very challenging and you did beautifully especially in Nishabd

I am in Sydney and would like to invite you to visit this attractive place.

Dear Amit ji, we (me & my husband)are great fans of yours and have a great deal of respect for you. I think you have done a wonderful job of starting this Blog. The fans will get to know directly from you on all the things that are aired on media and you are the best person to actually clarify all the media hypes on various things about you and your family. In many a cases, we felt you should have been given the much needed space that everyone should be entitled to.

Although I would like to tell you that being a great fan of yours and Jaya ji, we really love to hear news about you - anything that we can get to know about you. You see we all love you.:-)

This blog will be a grea opportunity to reach out to the fans and masses at large to clarify things as you mentioned in your interview on Headlines today and provided example on how the media has been editing the news that they report and fans really do not get the "real picture" of news report(s).

We wish you all the very best in your life from the bottom of our hearts.

Well sir, i wish to ask you about the over hyped and pretentious film of one of your contemporaries, Mr.Rajinikant. If you have watched the film, I am sure that you would have cringed in embarrassment and would have surely cursed the director for making such a film,at least,t hat was my reaction. What I wanted to ask is that would you not question the conscious and the integrity of the film crew who call themselves professionals and make such cheap publicity stunts and deliver such a dud? I am eager to get the answer sire, i could not find any better person to ask this question.

Dear Amitji,
I would have preferred to address u as Vijay . But, I am just a little older than your son, hence this title. I wanted to know how is it that u happen to be the pioneer of so many things in Hindi cinema (I am not using Bollywood here) ? First, u started the angry young man character, then u tried to organise the Hindi movie industry by corporatising it and now this cyberspace initiative. How do u do all this? Is it intrinsic, planned that u are already into the future before others? I would love to have some tips from u.
with highest regards,
Dharm( Jaipur)

Dear Amitabh Ji,

You are a worthy actor/artist who also got success, difficulties, fame, and prosperity. The most envious aspect is love you have got from your fans. It is a dream of an artist to be loved by people. You deserve it. You are a true inspiration to millions.
You should be on James Lipton's show “Inside Actor's Studio Show", where aspirant actors listen to questions and answers to/from a very successful actor.

Respected Amit ji,
My whole family has been your fan for decades. Surprisingly, my fatherwho is only 2 years younger than you looks exactly like you. He had recived en number of comments thinking that he was you. Many times young kids come up to him and say I watched you in so and so movie and it was a very good movie. When he was younger, kids used to come up to him and say "I liked how you hit that bad guy." It was amazing to be on reciving side of those comments when actually we knew they were for you, we had no way of passing them to you. Thanks to the new age, we can do that. I came to know about your blog from IBN7 news cast. I, along with my husband and kids live in Fremont, California, USA. I watched the news cast on internet. I am personally very happy to hear you talk about all those things. I think it is a good idea to end the bad rumours where the start. Another thing I liked a lot about it was your Hindi. O! I love hindi and these days you don't find any celebrity using such a good hindi. Its impressive to see that you have still kept up with such a good Hindi. I wish people used more pure Hindi and not trash the languge with mixture. P.S. I have met you personally two times in my life time, Once when I was very young. You visited Pune Af station for Silsila shooting, you were shooting the scene where you tell Jaya ji about Sashi ji's accident. In those days I was a kid may be 7 yrs old. Next I saw you when you visited Fremont India festival on 15th August 5-6 years back. I hope you keep it up. I would like to see you more on big screen. Thank you for reading my message.

Hi,

First of all, thank you, thank you , thank you, thank you........(million more times...). I admire you as a person, actor, father, son, husband and most of the all as a doting father-in-law the maximum.

You have done a huge favor to fans like us by having a blog. Your own thoughts, feelings, all the true real stuff. Not the made up journalist interview. I also think that people are very jealous of you. You are just so perfect and so good to be true for them. For me the most wonderful person in the world. One i look up to all the time.

Me, my husband and my kids Karan(9), Jai(4) and Pari(1) wish you all the best. We love you and learn a lot about family values from your family. I named Jai because of your name Jai in Sholay.

Keep up all the good work Sir. Critics be damned........(sorry about my word usage)

Dear Amit-ji:

Loved your blog posting. It gives me some type of "nearness" to you. This is something I missed all along. You are the most favorite actor of mine. That's why I hosted 5 "Amitabh Bachchan" film fest in last few years, at our home in Dallas. People from our community came each time, enjoyed the famous titles of yours, along with "Potluck" dinner!!

Regarding Abhishek & Aishwarya's wedding process, many of us here believe that your decision - whatever it was -- was a collective decision from the entire family. And democratically, every family has the right to choose its own course of decision- path regarding such matters as the wedding. As much as the media and others touted about it, it's really none of their business to dictate the terms upon you or complain about it.

So we think, as they say it here, "you rule"!!!!

Bye for now. Please keep in touch.

regards,
Rahul Chatterjee

Hi Amitabh,

I beleive, Amitabh means thousand points of light. Supposedly it is the name of 'Gautam Buddha'

So to the young man from the house of poets and freedom fighters, and the buddha's namesake, where did the bubling anger come from?

Angry young men are scary, but the duality of Amitabh is interesting and the thousand talents are mind boggling.

Thought conversing with you could be food for the soul.

Hello Amitji, I am really happy to see that you take good care of aishwarya. I have been a huge fan of her-weird since i am a girl, nehow.. i have never seen anyone so beautiful with such good values as Aishwarya has. She beleives in family values, loves wearing sarees, lived with her parents and now lives with her in laws, its something every Indian should learn from her. Do pass on my compliments to her and thank u for being such a great father in law. I wish to have a father in law like u who would appreciate me as much no matter what other jealous ppl say.

Dear Sir,
I find it odd to put yr name ....your stature, age and your persona is so huge therefore addressing you by the name would be impertinent.
i've never been an ardent fan of yours in the 70-80's but over the years yr films and small gimplses of the actual personality that AMITABH BACHAN is ....has evoked a great sense of respect towards you. GOD bless you and your family and as for the people who abuse you they need your name for people to notice them on the horizon.

Dear Mr.Amitabh,
I'm a fan of yours from the Maldives.
The first movie of yours which I saw was Sholay. Fortunately, I saw almost all of your movies on either 35mm or 70mm screen when I lived for few years in Mumbai.I also saw your beautiful bungalow in Juhu, from outside in 1977. Since the very first day I saw your action in Sholay I had wished if I could ever get a chance to have a word with as a fan, some day. Unfortunately, I was not in the capital, Male' when you visited Maldives some years back.
Sir,as an ardent fan of yours, I really admire your talent in acting and your dedication for the great industry of yours.
I would also like to ask you sir, if I may ever get a chance to visit you and your beloved family if I ever come to Mumbai some day?
I wish you and your family every happiness, more success & prosperity eternally!
Respected regards
Ibrahim

Hello, Mr Bachchan,
I am sorry i do not know exactly how to address you though i think Amitji is good.
I am a Nigerian living in the Uk and i have a very high level of respect for you.
I am glad you are acting more now and my husband and I are always eager to play your films to our older friends and my mum who still thinks of you as Vijay!!!!!!
I am happy for Abhi and Aish although i was worried about Abhi
when they started dating and hated Aish thinking she was out to get him ,but after the wedding;I have followed their lives online and I am very convinced that Aish is just a girl who keeps quiet and waits until she is happily married for us to know who she really is.I feel very bad that I have misjudged her all these years but we all know that silence and dignity can sometimes be interpreted as acceptance of what the media says.
I wish they would go on kofee with Karan or with Simi though,so i can see them naturally together[I have had to console myself with seeing Guru 10 times on dvd!!!!!].
I will like you to take good care of your health and Jaya also and be happy.
I missed seeing you at the star plus awards this year and I wish Abhi all the best in Drona and Dostana!!

Hello Amitabh,

Looking for MadhuShala and Madhubalas is good. Any religion finding middle ground in Madhushalas and Madhubalas will be rejected frm both at present point of time.
Looks like you have left the midground and were compelled to take sides out of dire necessities.

So,what is yhe point looking for Madhushalas or Madhubalas.

Days of freedom fight is long over, these are the days of fighting for personal protection.

For a man who is overly ambitious, and likes to climb the ladder upwards all the time, Madhushalas would be irrelevant, and could be just a nostalgia and a way of giving tribute.

Amitabha of thousand points of light, there is no going back in time.

Dear Mr. Bachchan,
Needless to say we are a big fan of yours....from my dad who is the same age as you ( and shares an uncanny resemblance with you) to my 8 yr. old daughter who doesn't understand a word of Hindi and watches very few hindi movies( but whenever i watch your movie she butts in and says isn't that shava shava guy mommy! he looks kind of like nanaji except nanaji is losing his hair)...

We are a big fan of Late Dr. Harivansh rai Bachchan...My grand uncle was his student at Allahabad University...He used to tell us that Dr. Bachchan taught them Shakespeare( he used to mimic his accent and everything)....My mom who is a professor of Hindi is the one who introduced me to his work...though it is now limited to hearing the renditions of Madhushala and all...
we would love to have you share his works with us...

Amitabha,

Finally Charitable wind is here. fighting to reduce the immorality that is corrupting.

After all one with such illustreous name, cannot always be the poster child for all the angry people and all the ambition.

There is no finding middle ground in Madhu Shalas and Madhu balas. Need to find other middle grounds in resolving any kind of coflict. The globe itself is in waring mood.Better close the 24 hour MadhuShalas at least.

For a person who wants more, more, more and the best, best, and one who wants to conquer east, west, north, south,

Enlightenment has come.

Now that you were in supersonics and T towers, go down to the core and seek your name sake's teachings.

Amitabha, of thousand points of light, forget the self, do some charity.

Dear Amitji,

Great to see you on this platform.
Now you can speak your mind, without any misinterpretation being made in yellow journalism.

Whatever the Raj thackreys say about you, you are a true Indian, a true Maharastrian.

There were cpomarisons drawn between you n SRK. I like him as well. But the fans of your's also understand for the fact that the journey of SRK is still a long way to go to reach your stature. We'll see what he does in his 60s. With due respects to SRKs, we'll take him to the same podium, where you are today; provided we find out of adjectives to describe him the way we find with you today.

Cheers !! Your movies rock!!
All the very best to your family.
And yes, may be become a grandfather soon.

Dear Mr. B.

I read in your blog a very disturbing thing and its about charity. If you paid someone to get on his foot don't call it charity. But you just helped someone to survive thru, don't do it. They die everyday, and it hurts to see that.

A good cause by you paves way for millions of followers who actually don't think and create more trouble.

Me and many others for generations to come need guidance on how to do things rather than what to do. You could be more of a guiding force rather than keeping your deeds to your humble self.

My whole family's been your fan since I can remember. I've been to Mumbai and never have I been to a temple as many times as I've been to your house hoping to catch a glimpse.
You are quite an enigma and an inspiration as well. I hope we can have some meaningful conversation in the course of our association and maybe I can meet you sometime.
I'm in france right now and was hoping to go to Cannes to maybe meet your son. I hope he does better if not as well as you.
Hope to see a response from you. I know I haven't written anything even vaguely intriguing but still am hoping against hope to catch your attention.

Hi Amitabh Bachchan!

I stay in Bangkok, and it is really depressing to see how there is an award show held here which is very prestigious, but because of the extreey high ticket prices, none of the common people could gain access to even the green carpet unless they have connections with the sponsers. I apologise if I sound rude, but it is not fair at all. When the same award show was held in Singapore, the ticket prices were less than half the prices sold here. Maybe you were not in charge of the pricing of the ticket, but at least could have told them to lower down the price. I again apologise if I appear to be rude, because that is not my intention. I am looking forward to your comments and thoughts on my post.

Regards.

Hi,

I am Padmakumar from Down South of India. I am 34yrs old. Married and have a 3yr old daughter. Since childhood I had been nursing three typical dreams, among others.

1. Meet and talk to Amitabh Bachchan,

2. Talk to Sachin Tendulkar,

3. Have a friendly chat with Lata Mangeshkar, where she might pat me over a joke.

May be I will realize them sometime or may not. But I would like ask you one thing, how well you enjoy your own persona? A lot I know. But the way you glanced, smiled, talked had been thrilling millions of fans including me over the years. You are the epitome of charisma. Have you ever thanked god for giving you that divine personality. PLease do that. At least infront of the mirror.

Of late I have a dream, to make a children's movie with you as a professor. The story is ready. But I have no funds. No connections. No experience. I have only hope and dreams manuring hope.

With a humongous hoard of respects,

Dear Mr. Bachhan,

Watched you yesterday on TV post Last Lear’s release. I don’t do this kind of thing (as in writing to a star), yet you used the word ‘tehraav’ and that’s something I have used often and so felt a sense of connection with you.

I have always followed your career, watched your films, defended you (hate the word ‘fan’) yet have disliked doing this kind of thing. I feel this is not something I do yet felt this quite a few times in the last many years. So was forced to blog as this seemed the only avenue to communicate with you

Sadly, we live in media-worshipping society that prioritises fame and glamour and the packaging a lot more than substance. I have always felt that there is more to you than your public image.
The reason I am writing to you is that last December I went on a trip to Benares after reading Joseph Campbell ‘Power of Myth’ and watching his 10-hour lecture series entitled ‘Mythos’.
You happened to be there at the same time in connection with the rituals for your mother’s demise.
Benares touched me deeply at all levels, yet left me saddened at its degradation, squalor and debasement.
I wanted to do something and it was an extremely powerful and all-encompassing feeling and yet I felt almost helpless. Your being there at the same time I felt was providential.
I don’t know yet what is that I can do but I believe that keeping your extremely influential (apropos the polio campaigns) public image could assist in creating a movement that would contribute to preserving and maintaining the cultural richness of India. I have noticed that in the West celebrities adopt causes (albeit in a very low-profile manner) and actually create a difference. Also in my Vedanta classes ‘purushartha’ (I personally believe that I can make things happen and that I am in charge of my life) is constantly stressed and the need for purpose is constantly accentuated

Please let me know what you think and I would like a response (positive or otherwise).

A little bit about me – I have been in special education since the last 24 years, also am a medical social worker and currently doing my Ph.D at TISS. My area of research is child mental health. In terms of work priorities the 2 areas I’d like to focus on are:
1. The Childrearing Function
2. Unstructured Play

Dear Respected Mr. Amitabhji - Namaste

Further to my yesterday's comments of 15 Dec 08, I had the great opportunity to meet you personally sometime in 1985 when you visited FICCI Bangalore and at that time I was living in Bangalore and was the member of FICCI Bangalore. It was my great personal pleasure to have your personal handshake and the next morning yours and my handshake picture was published in the front page of Deccan Herald which will always cherish me. Your handshake will always cherish my sweet memory throughout my life since the warmth of your handshake I still feel so fresh. I feel myself very fortunate to meet such a great person. God bless you and your family members.

With best regards

Respectfully yours
