The Hot Barbeque will combine a highly diverse blend of local and international live performance artists, grounded firmly in the glowing heart of the left field, alternative and eclectic. The musical program aims to describe Melbourne’s own musical characteristics and cosmopolitan spirit combining influenc¬es from rock to the spoken word to magnificent dub-reggae, electro, minimal and beyond.
Operating from midday through to 10pm, the festival will embody a commitment to arts culture and top of the line production standards to create a new breed of open-air event within the City of Melbourne. Capacity will be strictly limited to ensure everyone can enjoy the day comfortably and there will be first class facilities to ensure a boutique experience – no waiting, no queues and no disappointments!
The Hot Barbeque will be presented annually on New Years Day at Melbourne’s Birrarung Marr on the verdant banks of the Yarra River, and will embrace a rarefied mix of organic and futuristic live music to create a hot and bubbling melting pot of indie, funk, hip hop, rock n roll, electro, soul and more.
Hot BBQ seemed an appropriate title for this inaugural New Years Day festival since the crowd marinated in their own juices throughout this sweltering 38c day. Party goes with any brain cells left from the night before quickly realised that one had to 'slip slop slurp' in order to survive.
The greatest selling point of the day was that Hot BBQ lived up to its promoters' promises - there were no queues and capacity was limited to a comfortable level. Apart from the hot dog line, I didn't line up for longer than 10 minutes, even when queuing for the girls toilets
