Anita Dongre’s organic range of garments has encouraged a chef to present a food festival on those lines

It’s called Fashion Fusion, a festival of organic foods creatively put together by Chef Alex Bignotti of JW Marriott’s Mezzo Mezzo restaurant and which was inspired by fashion designer Anita Dongre. She always dreamed of doing something to save the environment and is close to achieving this with the launch of Grassroot, her organic cotton label.
Actually, the range was first made public at the Wills India Fashion Week in Delhi last fortnight. Anita scrapped her original collection line to introduce the organic cottons. It was Grassroot on the ramp, all prepared in a matter of few days, and Delhi went “Wow!” Said Anita, “It pleases my creative sensibilities so much that, for once, I am pursuing what my heart beats for.” Mumbai, of course, got wind of the organic line. And Chef Alex, whose excitement knew no bounds, enthusiastically decided to synergise fashion and food. The result? An organic food festival called ‘Fashion Fusion’. Tomorrow, actors Gul Panag, Neetu Chandra and others will kickstart this 10 day-long promotion that starts on Friday by wearing Anita’s organic cottons at the Italian restaurant.
Sharmila Mohite of RMMTL, Kolhapur, which produces organic cotton yarn in India, shares Anita’s ecofriendly vision. “Together we plan to reach the national and international markets with the organic cotton label,” revealed Anita. Grassroot will be available by March next year in India and later, internationally.
