Saurav Ganguly (India) - Sourav Ganguly, the icon player of the Kolkata IPL team said that he was happy with the players won by the Kolkata franchise. After returning from the landmark auction for the bidding of players in Mumbai, he said, "Our team was not short on batting. We dont need too many batsmen in Twenty20 matches and i get satisfied with the team we have got".

Ishant Sharma (India) - Ishant Sharma born September 2, 1988, in Delhi, India. He played for Indian under 19 team and plays for Delhi in domestic in Indian domestic cricket. He has a high arm delivery action and is able to move the ball in both directions. He has shown is talent in CB series in Austraila and was in great form. He destroy Austrailan batting line up in early overs so that other ballers can capitalize on that.
At the age of 18, Ishant Sharma was called to join the Indian squad for the tour of South Africa but because of some issue he had to wait little longer to represent Indian Cricket team. He debut in test aganest Bangladeshat Dhaka, May 25-27. After that he debut ODI aganest South Africa at Belfast, Jun 29, 2007. Ishant Sharma' Twenty20 debut was aganest Australia at Melbourne, Feb 1, 2008.
During this short time, he has shown great deal of promice and he is the next big fast baller for India. His recent form has been acknoledge by winning bid of $950,000 by bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan for his franchise Kolkata in the player auction for the IPL twenty20.

Shoaib Akhtar (Pakistan) - The five-year ban imposed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will not affect Shoaib

Akhtar's Indian Premier League (IPL) participation and the maverick pacer will play in the multi-million dollar

twenty20 series, BCCI vice-President and IPL chairman Lalit Modi said today.

"It is extremely clear in our player policy that the respective player will have to get an NOC from his home

country for joining the league. The home country can either issue or deny the NOC. In Shoaib's case, it has not

been denied," IPL Chirman and Commissioner Lalit Modi told reporters today.

Akhtar was handed a five-year ban yesterday for repeated indiscipline, virtually bringing the curtains down on

his international career.

However, the PCB has given him the go ahead to play in the IPL.

Akhtar has been signed by Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan's franchisee team Kolkata Knight Riders for a sum of

USD 4.25 lakh. The first season of IPL begins on April 18.

Ricky Ponting (Australia) - Most of Australia's one-day squad signed on the dotted line ahead of this week's

player "auction" but there were some notable absentees, including Clarke, Johnson, Brad Haddin, Stuart Clark

and Jason Gillespie.

The Australians were only cleared to play in the tournament this week after their national body reached an

agreement with IPL over a sponsorship dispute which had threatened their participation.

Ponting had said he feared players would turn their backs on their national teams if they were prevented from

joining the IPL.

He called on the International Cricket Council (ICC) to create a separate window for the tournament to avoid a

clash with regular international tours.

International cricket has already been hit by a series of high-profile retirements in the past month involving

players who have signed with the IPL or the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL).

McCullum told the Dominion Post. "When I was signed for US$700,000 I was obviously blown away and having

slept on it, it's a great feeling and it's nice to get the recognition."

McCullum was the biggest winner from New Zealand while Oram picked up $675,000, Daniel Vettori $625,000,

Fleming $350,000 and Scott Styris $175,000. The paper reported Fleming texted "Sorry, can't at the moment, at

the bank" when asked for an interview. He later said he was "just pleased to get picked up". "I saw the amounts

of money being thrown around and I thought: `Wow, I hope they keep trading.' It was incredible to be involved

in."

Oram was speechless when his amount came through. "I was expecting nothing like what I went for," he said.

"Dan was first up and I was happy for him. I was hoping I'd be somewhere close to him, I always thought he

would be top dog."

The participation of Oram, Vettori and McCullum will be limited in the first year because their tour of England

begins on April 27, leaving them only a handful of chances to participate in the inaugural event.

"The players realise where their priority lies," Justin Vaughan, the New Zealand Cricket chief executive, said. "It

might hurt them in the pocket in the first year but the following two years are clear for them." There are no

problems for Fleming, who has retired, while Styris has stood down from Tests and will be available for all of

Hyderabad's matches.

Chris Gayle (West Indies) - A thrusting Jamaican left-hander, Gayle earned himself a black mark on his first

senior tour - to England in 2000 - where the new boys were felt to be insufficiently respectful of their elders. But

a lack of respect, for opposition bowlers at least, has served Gayle well since then. Tall and imposing at the

crease, he loves to carve through the covers off either foot, and has the ability to decimate the figures of even

the thriftiest of opening bowlers. In a lean era for West Indian cricket - and fast bowling in particular - Gayle's

pugnacious approach has become an attacking weapon in its own right. His 79-ball century at Cape Town in

January 2004, on the back of a South African first innings of 532, was typical of his no-holds-barred approach.

However, Gayle's good run ended when England came calling early in 2004, and he averaged 26 against their

potent pace attack - Steve Harmison, in particular, fancied his chances against Gayle, dismissing him four times

in seven innings, as a lack of positive footwork was exposed. But men with little footwork often baffle experts,

and after returning to form with an uncharacteristic century against Bangladesh, he exacted his revenge on

England's bowlers with a battering not seen since Lara's 400, before coming within a whisker of emulating Lara

himself, with a career-best 317 against South Africa in Antigua. In the disastrous 2005-06 tour of New Zealand

he led the batting in the three-Test series, piling 235 runs - no other West Indian touched the 200-run mark. He

also bowls brisk non-turning offspin, with which he has turned himself into a genuine one-day allrounder.

Maturing quickly, he has become a consistently prolific scorer in the ODIs.

David Hussey (Australia) - Australian cricketer David Hussey is flattered but embarrassed to know that he

attracted a higher price than his star compatriots such as captain Ricky Ponting and Brad Hodge at the players'

auction for Indian Premier League franchises.

Hussey, who has been purchased by Kolkata franchise for $625,000, said he initially thought the price was a

joke as it was 300,000 Aus dollars more than Ponting and 250,000 Aus dollar higher than legend Shane Warne.

"It was indescribable. I got told and then sat and said 'Are you taking the mickey out of me?' They said it was

genuine... It's just remarkable. It's very flattering," Hussey said.

But he was surprised that his Victorian teammate Brad Hodge, who has more international experience, was

overlooked.

"I just don't understand it. He's one of the best Twenty20 players in the world, no question. His record for

Lancashire and for Victoria is second to none. It doesn't make any sense at all," he said.

"I'm very surprised and I sort of feel a bit embarrassed. I think he (Hodge) is a better Twenty20 player than

myself and he's been overlooked. But I'm sure when the second round comes, when top-up players are required

he'll get picked up. He'd have to," he was quoted as saying by the 'Herald Sun'.

Hussey said his brother Mike, an established Test star for Australia who has been rated at$381,000 by the

Chennai franchise of IPL, was stunned to know the difference in their prices.

"He actually sent me a text message this morning and said, 'I can't believe you're worth double what I am,'"

Hussey said.
