MUMBAI: Quake-prone Latur and Osmanabad districts were shaken by fresh tremors measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale around 12.40 pm on Thursday leading to a wave of fear and anxiety among the locals.
The state administration has sounded the alert in as many as 40 villages including Killari in Latur, which was among the worst-hit during the September 1993 quake which saw over 10,000 people dead and 30,000 injured.
Officials said the IMD has recorded the epicentre of the quake at Umergaon in Osmanabad in Marathwada district. "It is not a panic situation but we have asked the district officials to be in the state of preparedness. There are indications that the tremors have subsided as the aftershocks recorded at 12.56 pm were only 1.8 on the Richter scale indicating low-intensity," said a state government official.
